The Katzensee is a lake with a surface area of 0.36 km² (about 90 acres), located some 11 km northwest of Zürich; its Seebad Katzensee facility is very popular in season. Entry is free; there is a nudist area and lifeguard supervision. Features include 80 metres of sandy beach, grassed areas with shade suitable for both sunbathing and picnics, a children’s playground and a games area for Frisbee, badminton, boules, etc. Facilities include lockers and toilets, barbeque places and a kiosk/snack bar. The surrounding flats are a nature reserve of national importance. Umbrellas and beach chairs can be hired.
