The American celebrated and controversial sculptor Donald Judd (1928-1994) died whilst working on the design for the Judd Brunnen in Steinberggasse in Winterthur. Judd, who was also a painter and had a home in Kussnacht am Rigi in Switzerland, designed the three elliptical minimalist fountains of different basin heights to allow for the gradient of the Steinberggasse. The water in the fountains is continuously changed and recycled in an underground filter system. These examples of Donald Judd’s art were completed in 1997.
