The Johanna Spyri Museum is located approximately 21 km south of Zürich, in the 1660 Hirzel schoolhouse where the writer Johanna Spyri (1827-1901) went to school. Her best known work, Heidi, dates from 1880/1881 and has been translated into 50 languages, filmed in several versions and is still a popular classic work of children’s literature today. Johanna wrote more than forty books, the first being published in 1871 when she was 44 years old. The museum contains photos, literary works, personal items which belonged to Johanna and her family and the Heidi Room dedicated to the famous character.
