The Huwiler Tower stands in the art museum gardens and still has the town wall and parapets on both sides. Although the exact date of construction is not certain, it could not have been later than 1524/25; known for a long time as the Hof tower, its present title relates to a purchaser of this name in 1697. The tower, originally used to store gunpowder, is the smallest of the four outer wall towers and has been authentically restored. It has an internal diameter of 6.3 metres and the walls vary in thickness from 1.7 to 2.0 metres.
