The Maison d’Ailleurs (House of Elsewhere) is a museum of science fiction, utopia and extraordinary journeys. It is unique in Europe. Founded in 1976 by Pierre Versins, the museum displays documents and items related to science fiction and its imagery such as posters, toys and works of art. Housed in the old prison, it holds a massive collection of some 80,000 items, including antiquarian books from as early as the fifteenth century. One of which is a 1631 Amsterdam edition of Thomas More’s Utopia in Latin. Strangely side by side with this are sci-fi paperbacks, including an array of Asimovs in various languages.
