Located at Hilterfingen, 4.5 km southeast of Thun, the impressive 19th century Hünegg Castle is now a museum, exhibiting its decoration and furniture from the historicism and art nouveau movements. Designed by Heino Schmieden (1835-1913), the castle was built in the period 1861-1863 for Baron Albert Emil Otto von Parpart (1813-1869), an officer in the Prussian army. The building was modernised around 1900, but has remained without change since. Set in a splendid wooded park on the right bank of Lake Thun, Schloss Hünegg also stages special exhibitions and is the venue for concerts and other cultural events.
