Heimplatz is also known as Pfauen and apart from being the home of the Kunsthaus (see separate entry) has other noteworthy features. The square is named after the composer Ignaz Heim (1818-1880) whose statue dates from 1881. This is also the home of the Schauspielhaus, one of Switzerland’s most important theatres which stages mainly German plays. Adjacent to the front door of the Kunsthaus is Rodin’s unfinished ‘Gates of Hell’ and there are other sculptures in the grounds, including works by Henry Moore and Aristide Maillol.
