The Haus Zum Rech is an 800-year-old building and houses Zürich’s archives including its architectural history; it stands in one of the city’s most picturesque squares. The house, which alone is worth visiting, is flanked by two medieval towers, the 12th century Gothic Grimmenturm and the Bilgeriturm, now part of the ‘Zur Schuhmacher’ guild house. There is often a temporary exhibition, usually on a topic related to Zürich’s building history. There is also a large model of the city in the year 1800.
