Hallau is situated about 17 km west of Schaffhausen, in some of the most beautiful wine growing country in Switzerland. The region’s wines have a good reputation and, whilst the history of viticulture in the area goes back to Roman times, it is the monks who developed and spread the art. You can learn more in the Weinbaumuseum, including how the vineyards, which were at one stage heated, are cultivated and protected today. You can also discover how wine barrels were made and how the wine is stored and tended in the barrels. Of course, you can also taste the product!
