When visiting the Hallau wine museum or the lido (see separate entries), some 17 km west of Schaffhausen, leave some time to include the famous Bergkirche St Moritz. Built in 1491 and dedicated to St Mauritius, it is a landmark which overlooks the village and can be seen from far away. The mountain church was declared a national monument in 1974 and was extensively renovated in the period 1976-78, when valuable insight into the village history was gained. With its unique location, it is a popular place for weddings and is also the venue for many concerts.
