One of the three major churches in Zürich, Grossmünster was, according to legend, founded by Charlemagne, after his horse tripped over the graves of Felix and Regula, Zürich’s patron saints. Construction started on the present Romanesque-style church around 1100 and inauguration took place in 1220. In the 16th century, the Church was the pastoral office of Huldrych Zwingli and the starting point of the Swiss-German Reformation he led with Heinrich Bullinger. Notable features include the Reformation Museum in the cloister, Augusto Giacometti’s 1932 stained glass window, the bronze doors by Otto Münch from 1935 and 1950 and the Romanesque capitals.
