Grande Place is one of the finest features of Vevey and an ever-popular tourist attraction, as well as being a meeting place for Vevey residents. It is an unusually large market square, located on the shores of the lake and giving beautiful views across the water. At its north end is the colonnaded Grenette (Corn Exchange, 1808) and, beyond this, near the Theatre, is the Auberge de la Clef, in which Rousseau stayed in 1730 (a commemorative plaque marks the spot).
