The Geological-Mineralogical Exhibition at the University of Zürich gives an absorbing insight into the constant development of our planet over millions of years and through periods of catastrophe and dramatic change. It covers the atomic structure of crystals and minerals, the formation of mountain chains and the processes behind continental drift. The traces of ancient life range from skeletons of small sea-dwellers, to the footprints of giant dinosaurs. The exhibition helps us to realise the complex processes of development and appreciate the enormous forces at work below the earth’s surface.
