Regarded as one of the most important photographic museums in Europe and housed in a former factory, the Fotomuseum opened in 1993. It is not only dedicated to contemporary photography, but is also a museum for the work of classic 19th and 20th century photographers. It is committed to photography as an art form and as a representation of reality. The museum has a growing permanent collection and stages five major exhibitions a year. In addition to its publications, it organises lectures and discussions. The Fotomuseum also covers the field of commercial applied photography in such fields as industry, architecture and fashion.
