Diessenhofen lies on the River Rhine, approximately 10 km east of Schaffhausen, and its interesting local museum reveals many facts about the river and the town’s important textile industry. The sophisticated art of printing and dyeing of textiles flourished in the Diessenhofen area in the 19th century and an original model engraver workshop gives insight into this trade. There is a gallery dedicated to some 180 works of the distinguished local artist Carl Roesch (1874-1979) and a further section is devoted to the Rhine and its history, with particular reference to its significance to Diessenhofen. The museum also stages special exhibitions.
