In a city with many fine statues and other artworks, the sculpture entitled ‘Die Schreitende’ is considered by many connoisseurs as one of the most spectacular female nudes to be seen in Zürich. It is by the Swiss sculptor Otto Charles Bänninger (1897-1973) and was created between 1942 and 1946 and is 2.5 metres (about 8’2") tall. Die Schreitende (the Walker) was acquired by the city council because of its superb artistic qualities and is displayed in a prominent location.
