The Coninx Museum, founded in 1986 by Werner Coninx (1911-1980), a painter and collector, is located in his former home. The house was built by Connix’s father in 1912 and designed by the architects Pfleghard and Haefli; it is now a protected building. The museum houses one of the biggest private art collections in Switzerland and consists of thousands of paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints. There are important works by Picasso and Kirchner, Buchet, Morach, Hodler and Auberjonois, who was a friend. There are also a large number of major 19th and 20th century works by Swiss artists and Hindu and Buddhist sculptures.
