The Concert Hall (Tonhalle) is located in Museumstrasse opposite the modern Theater St Gallen (see separate entry). The splendid art nouveau-style building was erected in 1907 and in 1993 was completely renovated and converted, at considerable expense, to a cultural and conference centre with four halls. It stages a wide range of events from concerts by the St Gallen Symphony Orchestra and chamber music, to jazz and pop music. The Tonhalle is home to the Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1877 and is one of the oldest in Switzerland.
