Horgen is located about 5 km southeast of Thalwil and the Coal Mining Museum there is a good option for a family visit. The museum, which is in a former coal mine, provides a fascinating insight into the more than a century-old history of coal mining in Horgen-Käpfnach and also explains how coal is formed. This is done by means of films, diagrams, display signs and exhibits of mining lamps, tools and fossils. The highlight, especially for the children, is the 1.4 km rail ride through a mining tunnel, helmets provided.
