Located on the outskirts of the village of Olsberg, 7 km southwest of Rheinfelden, the Cistercian monastery ‘Hortus Dei’, which dates from 1234, was superbly restored in the period 1972-95 and, with its church, is well worth a visit. The grounds are open to the public at weekends. Between 1790 and 1841, the monastery was converted into a girl’s institute and is today a school for children and teenagers who have learning and behavioural problems. In 2006 the distinguished cellist Sol Gabetta (b.1981) founded the Solsberg Festival here. It takes place in June each year and features up and coming artists.
