Zürich is twinned with the Chinese city of Kunming and the Chinese Garden is a beautiful gift to the people of Zurich, for technical help given in developing Kunming’s municipal drainage system and water supply. Established by gardeners from both cities, the garden was opened in 1994 and has pavilions, open galleries and a water palace with terrace; guided tours are available. The enclosing wall has various decorative features and a frieze with moulded figures that represent the dragon of the clouds. Arched and zigzag bridges connect to a central island. The garden is hired out for weddings and other functions.
