The picturesque village centre of Samedan, located about 6 km northeast of St Moritz, is itself worthy of a visit, but Samedan also has the Chesa Planta, a museum of living culture. Built in 1595 by the Von Salis family and enlarged in 1760, it is an outstanding example of an Engadin aristocratic home and of domestic culture in the 18th and 19th centuries. It houses the Upper Engadin cultural archives, which include photographs, books, plans, herbarium pages, art, a Rhaeto-Romanic library and much more.
