During the Middle Ages, the parish church of St Lawrence was situated outside the defensive walls and the inhabitants of Saillon wanted their own church inside the enclosure. The chapel belonging to the castle, dedicated to the Archangel Michael, was private and disappeared with the destruction of the castle in 1475. In 1479, a new chapel was constructed at the top of the village and dedicated to Saint Sulpice, Saint Lawrence and the Holy Théobald. The current church, built in 1740, preserves within it the shape substructures of the old sanctuary.
