The remains of Castrum can be found north of the towns’ cemetery, approximately 300 metres from the Savoy Chateau. About a century after the first invasions of the Alemanni, when the "Vicus" had been completely destroyed, the Romans built a large military stronghold covering 5 acres. It was protected by gigantic ramparts and 15 masonry towers, which made up Castrum. The garrison and the Roman administration had to abandon the Yverdon camp in the 5th century. The inhabitants of Eburodunum, who had previously lived beyond the ramparts, took possession of the Castrum, using it for their own protection. Eburodunum-Yverdon survived in this way until the 15th century.
