Built in 1191 by Duke Berchtold V of Zähringen, the castle has housed the History Museum since 1888 and is one of the most visited in Switzerland. One of the highlights is the Knights Hall, which has been restored to its 12th century state. Used for cultural events, banquets and weddings, it provides a great setting and is 19 x 13 metres and 7 metres high. The museum exhibits cover a wide range including Thuner majolica and ceramics, toys, musical instruments, clocks, weapons and uniforms from the 18th and 19th centuries. Do not miss the views from the four lookout towers.
