The Castle Museum is near St Oswald’s Church (see separate entry) and housed in a 13th century fortress, which was once the headquarters of regional governors. The building changed from being a fortification to a residence and has been restored to its late 18th century appearance. The museum opened in 1982 and exhibits cultural and historic items relating to the Zug town and canton. Items displayed include paintings, sculptures, stained glass, clocks, weapons, uniforms and craft and agricultural implements. Particularly interesting is the ‘talking’ model of the town, which graphically conveys Zug’s history. The museum stages special exhibitions and other events.
