The Schanzengraben promenade is a delightful place to stroll along the tree-lined embankment to the historic Schanzengraben Canal (see separate entry). In 1982, to coincide with an extension of the promenade, Demetrios Yannakopoulos was commissioned to build a new fountain at the Bärenplatz, in order to create a centrepiece for this very attractive leisure area. He chose to use Carrara marble worked into harmonious, flowing forms to ensure that the fountain blended organically into its surroundings.
