The great German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) spent the summers of 1886 to 1898 at Hofstetten on Lake Thun and there is a bronze monument to him on Johannes Brahms Quai, which lines the River Aare basin. Brahms worked on many compositions here, including his Violin Sonata no 2 in A Major which is known as ‘Thun’ and reflects his yearning for the singer Hermine Spies as he waited for her visit. Opposite, there are wooded islands with a romantic walk known as ‘Inseli-Kehr Machen’.
