Located to the east of Marktplatz is the Bohl, which contains two features of contrasting interest. The attractive Waaghaus (Weigh House) with a white façade was built in 1583 and now houses the Council Chamber and the city authorities; it is used extensively for shows and concerts. The busy Bohl bus stop is an imposing modern structure erected in 1996 and designed by Santiago Calatrava (b.1951), the internationally acclaimed Spanish architect, sculptor and structural engineer. He is known for such buildings as the 54 storey high twisting tower building ‘Turning Torso’ (2005) in Malmo Sweden.
