The History Museum opened in 1952. The beautifully furnished ground floor of the 18th century Schloss Blumenstein gives an insight into how ruling classes lived in the 18th century. Amongst the noteworthy items to be seen are a 1780 clavichord in the Green Room and a huge mirror and harp in the Red room. Chamber music concerts and other cultural events are held here. The first floor is devoted to the history of Solothurn and the region and there is an interesting model of 1830 Solothurn. The museum has more than 10,000 items, including the Weiss collection of musical boxes.
