The St Gallen Art Museum is located in an 1897 building designed by the architect Johann Christoph Kunkler, which is regarded as one of the outstanding classicist buildings in Switzerland. The collection includes both paintings and sculptures and covers the period from late Middle Ages to the present; the exhibitions are regularly changed. Amongst the artists represented are Böcklin, Callot, Corinth, Delacroix, Dürer, de Heem, Hodler, Liebermann, Monet, Rembrandt, Ruysdael, Spitzweg, Teniers and Von Stuck. The section devoted to modern art includes works by Kirchner, Klee, Taeuber-Arp and Warhol and creations by Merz, Paik, Rist, Serra and Signer.
