The Appenzell Museum is located in the pedestrian only Hauptgasse, which is a delight with its intricately painted wooden houses, of which the Löwen pharmacy at No. 20 is a fine example. The museum is housed in the same building as the tourist office and its exhibits overflow into the upper floors of the next door Rathaus (town hall). Highlights include the Appenzell hand-embroidery collection, the religious art and the interesting examples of local crafts and carpentry. The exhibitions vary from time to time and the visitor gains a good insight into the history and culture of this fascinating town.
