The Arboretum, a beautiful park off the General-Guisan-Quai on the west side of Lake Zürich, contains the bronze statue of Aphrodite. It was created in 1921 by the celebrated Danish sculptor Einar Utzon-Frank (1888-1955) and acquired some 10 years later by the City of Zürich to add to the decoration of the park. Utzon-Frank, who began his artistic career as a painter before turning to sculpture, drew much of his inspiration from Greek classical architecture. He was an influential professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1931-1955. Many of his sculptures are public monuments.
