The Andrea Robbi Museum is located in Sils Maria, approximately 10 km southwest of St Moritz and focuses on the life and work of two local artists, Andrea Robbi (1864-1945) and Samuele Giovanoli (1877-1941). Robbi studied art in Munich with Giovanni Giacometti and later in Dresden, Milan, Rome and Paris. He returned to Sils in 1898, but died impoverished and unrecognised. It was not until 1988 that his work found acclaim. Giovanoli, who is known as the ‘paradise painter from the Fex Valley’, has made art history with his naïve pictures. The museum also stages temporary exhibitions.
