The beautiful villa ‘Am Römerholz’ is on an elevated site on the edge of a forest above Winterthur and was, together with the Oskar Reinhart art collection (see separate entry), bequeathed to the Swiss Confederation. It was originally built between 1915 and 1918 by the Geneva-based architect Maurice Turrettini (1878–1932) for a Winterthur industrialist. The same architect was commissioned in 1925 by Oskar Reinhart, the villa’s new owner, to add a gallery for his art collection. Renovated and restored in 1996-98 to its original character, by the Zurich-based architects Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer, it provides a stunning setting for the art collection.
