Opened in 1938, the Museum zu Allerheiligen is one of Switzerland’s richest local museums and is housed in the attractive buildings of the former Benedictine monastery. The exhibits are wide ranging and the highlights are the archaeological items and the art collection of Swiss painters and sculptors of the last 500 years. Other collections include history, natural history, numismatics, playing cards, graphics, weapons, guild relics, traditional costumes and period furnishings; the list is almost endless and covers the entire period from prehistory to the present. Together with the abbey (see separate entry), this is one of Schaffhausen’s top attractions.
