The attractive town of Zofingen lies approximately 9.5 km southeast of Olten and has much to interest the visitor, not least the historic town centre. The town was founded in 1201 by the counts of Frohburg and the town hero is Niklaus Thut because of his actions at the battle of Sempach in 1386; there is a fountain with his statue in the square named after him. Other items of interest include the Roman mosaic grounds, the Stiftsturm tower with its glockenspiel, the landmark Town Church (Stadtkirche), the Powder Tower, (Pulverturm), the Münzturm, the Old Chancellery and the Heitern game park and much more.
