The Wilhelm Schmid Museum, located in the centre of Brč, is dedicated to the work of the painter. Wilhelm Schmid (1892-1971) moved to Ticino in 1943. The painter was a member of the artistic and cultural movement called “Neo-objectivity”, which was active in Germany in the 1920s, before the advent of Nazism. Although Wilhelm Schmid belonged to the movement, he followed a more romantic and less aggressive vision than his colleagues. The collection catalogues the important stages of his artistic development. The movement derived from Expressionism and included painters such as Otto Dix, Grosz and Schad among its adherents.
