Wilderswil has a population of around 2,500 and is located approximately 3 km south of Interlaken; it lies at the entrance to the River Lütschine valleys of Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Apart from being a departure point for many hikes, it has a number of other attractions, including the ‘Old Mill’ village museum which stages temporary exhibitions dedicated to local culture, arts and crafts, the remains of Unspunnen Castle, an historic local vantage point and the Nature Garden. The idyllic mountain village of Saxeten is some 6 km away and Gsteigwiler with its 12th /13th century church is only 2 km southwest.
