Villa Argentina is a stunning property which was constructed in 1872. The famous architect, Antonio Croci, designed the mansion for the Bernasconi family. The Bernasconis were born in Mendrisio, but had travelled to Argentina and established businesses there, becoming exceptionally wealthy as a result. The villa, which is an interesting mix of neoclassical and colonial architecture, has an extensive and attractive park. In recent years the building has been used as the home of the Academy of Architecture.
