The Tourist Museum is located close to both the Hauptstrasse and the Freihofstrasse in an attractive restored 17th century residence. The first regional museum of its type in Switzerland, it traces the history and dramatic development of travel and tourism in the region surrounding Interlaken and how it has affected the area. There is an English language summary of the items on display, which include many old photographs and pictures, historic sports equipment and means of transportation. The focus, as to be expected, is on winter sports facilities and mountain transportation.
