Since 2008 the Museo d’Arte in Villa Malpensata has been dedicated to the art and the artists of the 20th and 21st century. Villa Malpensata was built during the first half of the 18th century and is typical of the lakeside architecture which was popular at the time. It faces the lake has offers spectacular views. Originally, it belonged to the Luganese Foppa family, but over the years changed hands many times, eventually it was bequeathed (together with all its paintings, sculptures and art objects) to the City of Lugano, with the stated intention that it be used as an art museum.
