The beautiful church of Cossnay, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, has a documented history going back to 1096. However, recent excavations (1909-1911 and 1971-1973) have uncovered sections of an 8th century building and also parts of a later 9th century construction. The current building (cantonal historic building since 1901) is from a later period, dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. The bell-tower was dedicated during Easter 1407 and the porch dates from the 20th century. Restoration work was carried out in 1856-1860, 1913-1914 and 1921-1923. Documented mention in 1493 of a “Jewish cemetery” points to the existence of a Jewish community in the town.
