The Swiss Transport Museum occupies some 40,000 square metres and is the largest in Europe; it covers trains, cars, ships, aircraft, space travel and much more. There is a planetarium, where you can view the sky through an 18 metre diameter dome and an Immax Film Theatre, the first in Switzerland, opened in 1996. Apart from the exhibits you would expect to see in such a comprehensive museum, an anchored balloon gives you outstanding views from 120 metres, or you can relive the construction of the Gotthard tunnel in 1875. There is also the Hans Erni museum (see separate entry).
