Located around 18 km southwest of Olten and close to Langenthal, the Cistercian Abbey of St Urban is regarded as one of the most impressive examples of Baroque and Cistercian architecture in Switzerland. The abbey, founded in 1184, was entirely rebuilt and completed in 1716, to the design of the Vorarlberg architect Franz Beer (1659-1726). Features of the church are the fine organ and richly carved choir-stalls. Tours by appointment are available throughout the year and from May to October there is a free tour on the first Sunday of each month (10.45 am in front of the church).
