The St John’s Benedictine Convent (see separate entry) has a museum which presents more than 1,200 years of monastic life and architectural history. It is housed in the Planta Tower, dating from 967, and is said to be oldest building of its type still standing in the Alps. The visit to the museum will take you through the cloister, the large cellar and the three stories of the tower. The exhibits, including Carolingian carvings and Baroque works of art, give the visitor an insight into the inner workings of a convent. The store sells items made by the nuns, including handmade needlepoint.
