Located near Sundlauenen, about 6 km northwest of Interlaken, St Beatus has a kilometre of illuminated caves with stalactites and stalagmites and much more. Many legends exist concerning the caves and it is said that they provided a sanctuary to St Beatus in the 6th century, after he killed the dragon which lived in the prehistoric settlement. There is a park with a waterfall, a children’s playground with a dragon slide, picnic areas and a restaurant in an idyllic setting. The unique cave museum covers the history of these and other Swiss caves, whilst the Fable House stages special exhibitions.
