The Church of Santa Maria degli Angioli, constructed by the Franciscan Friars, is a plain and simple building and dates from the late 15th Century. However, the interior is famous for the amazing frescoes created towards the end of his life by the artist, Bernardino Luini, while he was a guest of the friars. It is known that Bernardino Luini was Leonardo’s best pupil and the huge piece of work here, called the ‘Passion’, is said to rival the work of Leonardo himself.
