Designated a World Monument in 1991, the Salginatobel Bridge is about 1.5 km northeast of Schiers on the road to Schuders and is 23 km north west of Klosters. Opened in 1930, the bridge is a masterpiece of civil engineering and well worth a visit. Designed by the distinguished Swiss engineer Robert Maillart (1872-1940), the bridge spans the Salgina gorge at a height of 90 metres, is 133 metres long and is in reinforced concrete, constructed as a three-hinged arch, developed as a hollow box girder. It shares its honour with the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.
