This small Roman Amphitheatre was studied as far back as the end of the 19th century, when it was the object of drilling and excavations, but it remained little known outside of Martigny until 1978. The Swiss Confederation acquired it and undertook extensive restoration. The embankment consists of piled-up alluvium from the dug out arena. On the south-east side was the pulvinar, which was reached by an arched corridor. The main walls are relatively narrow, only three roman feet, and some of them have suffered from the embankment’s weight.
